The Fascination of Glaze

The mysterious world of glaze is like magic. Some contain poison and are dangerous. The porcelain sculpture that I am working on for the Ota-Ward Gymnasium is challenging, seriously working with different types of glaze.

Outdoor terra cotta sculpture

I have designed a small water garden which consists of a fountain, a terra cotta sculpture, stripe stone floor and a stone bench.

Also have participated in designing the entrance hall interior.

Working at a ceramic studio in Yugawara

I have been working on a ceramic sculpture for a gymnasium in Ota ward, Tokyo, having fun at glazing.
The art work will be integrated with 1600 convex mirrors on the wall.

Kazenobi

When Yoshino Elementary School closed its doors after 103 years, the agrarian town of Shin-Totsukawa-cho, the neighboring town of Takikawa where I grew up, decided to restore (architectural restoration plan by Yoshihiko Iida) and appropriate the school facility into my atelier and gallery. I wanted it to be a place of communication and experience through sculpture, named Kazenobi (Beauty of the Wind).

Kazenobi is open daily except Mondays from May to October. A tiny shop sells my special art pieces only available here, and one can enjoy exquisite cookies and tea at the café.

Unlike museums and galleries, where one is confronted with art, Kazenobi is a place to spend a pleasant time surrounded by art. For this reason, not too many works are exhibited at the same time. By changing the exhibited works from time to time, one can encounter new artworks and enjoy the change in space. Moreover, admission is limited to a number of people entering at the same time, allowing for a quiet and peaceful time to enjoy the surrounding nature. Locals and visitors from far away come here to seek tranquility in a beautiful environment.
