For the basement of the Paseo Shopping Mall at Sapporo station, I designed a square with dim lights intending to create a space of rest within a brightly illuminated shopping mall. With “the Forest” as a theme, the square consists of a terra cotta mural sculpture, striped stone floors, stainless steel columns and leaf-shaped benches. The benches are of cushioned material in contrast to the hard materials composing the space.
