Imono Platter

The cast iron craft of Yamagata prides 700 years of tradition making high quality teakettles. Not only teakettles but also other cast iron products are heavy and need care in handling making them unpopular in modern times. Moreover, the traditional craft faces an existential crisis due to the lack of successors. I took part in developing new products using the technique of casting iron in sand moulds to produce fine thin shells. More than fifty new products were produced and were exported to USA and Europe.
